Joanna Wakeland

Joanna began her career in education with Chicago Public Schools as a classroom teacher. After relocating to California she would spend ten years at Camino Nuevo Charter Academy (CNCA). In her time at CNCA she served as a classroom teacher, Literacy Specialist, and K-8 Instructional Coach. Upon return to Chicago, she was employed by New Teacher Center as an Induction Coach, mentoring first-year teachers within a number of Chicago Public Schools. 

Joanna joined UChicago Impact in 2016 as a Manager of Professional Learning for STEP Literacy. She provides strategic support in the administration, implementation, and coaching of staff for schools using the STEP Literacy Assessment system. 

Joanna completed her BA in Elementary Education at The University of Northern Iowa and her Master’s degree in Social Work with a concentration in Community Organizing, Planning and Administration at The University of Southern California.
