Leticia Cantu is a STEP Trainer Associate responsible for coaching schools using English and Spanish STEP. Cantu has 12 years of experience working with various multicultural and urban school districts in Illinois that serve bilingual students. Fluent in both English and Spanish, she has worked as a Response to Intervention Director and an Educational Diagnostician for 10 years. She has supported schools in their development of Response to Intervention Programs with a focus on Spanish literacy instruction, as well as providing support to bilingual and dual language teachers.
Cantu received her B.A. in Management & Leadership from Judson University and earned her M. Ed. in Special Education as a Learning Behavior Specialist at Northern Illinois University. She has also received a Level II certification in Bilingual Special Education from the University of Illinois at Chicago's Monarch Center, which supports resources for teachers working with students with disabilities who come from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Cantu has also presented at the Learning Disabilities Association to provide best practices to teachers in creating Response to Intervention Programs for dual language schools to further assist both teachers and students.
